2016 Tour: August 20th – September 3rd Itinerary

Saturday August 20 • Pick up at Pontoise, a Metro journey out of Paris.

Visit the Chateau of Versailles, spend the day, with an audioguide, exploring the chateau, the gardens, and watching the Musical Fountains Show.

Our overnight stop is in Chartres, in an historic bed and breakfast right next to the Cathedral. After dinner, we will have a stroll through the city centre, taking in the amazing spectacle of the City of Lights.

Sunday August 21

A morning to explore the old “quartiers” of Chartres, the City of Light & Perfume. Chartres had the first aerodrome in France, & a school of aviation was established to train the 3000 pilots during WW1. In 1979 Chartres was on the first list of UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Then we will be on our way to the Atlantic coast for a 3 night stay in a converted abbey, set in a tranquil park.

Monday August 22 -Tuesday August 23rd

An early morning visit to Mont St Michel (trying to avoid the crowds!). Worth the uphill walk to visit the Abbey at the top, then a stroll back down past the small boutique businesses – shopping, anyone?!

A day to visit the walled coastal town of St Malo, where the walls were destroyed by the Allies in WW11 and totally rebuilt with much of the original stonework. And the medieval town of Dinan is well worth a visit & a stroll around.

Wednesday August 24 – Friday August 26

Off to Bayeux. Villedieu-les-Poeles is an interesting stop, a town full of copperware – cooking pots, bells, ornaments. Across the Cotentin Peninsula to arrive at our accommodation for the next 3 nights. Time to unpack!

For the next few days we explore the region around Bayeux, visiting the landing beaches, including the wonderful museum at Arromanches where we can visit the Circular Theatre & look down over Mulberry Harbour, the artificial harbour built in 2 weeks to land the soldiers , equipment & transport for the invasion. A visit to the huge cemetery at Omaha Beach is a must.

Also of course the Bayeux Tapestry!

Saturday August 27

At last to our villa for the next week, on the Eure River. We will spend this week visiting Monet’s Garden at Giverney, the Chateau at Auvers-sur-Oise, where the Impressionist & Post-Impressionist painters gathered, spend time in Rouen to visit the Cathedral & wander the quaint narrow streets. And so much more to do! Or, of course, you can just relax by the pool!

Saturday September 3rd

Time to be taken back to the station at Pontoise for your journey back into Paris, & your onward travels.

Thanks & we look forward to the opportunity to travel with you.

Please use the Enquiry form below and we will be in touch to talk through the trips of a lifetime.
Sue & David Sweet

I will let our previous clients have the last word!

This was our fourth trip with David and Sue to Europe. Every time we return home, we say “That was a trip of a lifetime,” (you could say that about any of our trips with them).

My 17 days with Sue and David was everything I expected it to be and more. I had wanted a small group tour because I knew it would be more personal and flexible and so it was. We always had somewhere wonderful organised for us to visit each day and always some free time to do a bit more exploring if we wanted to but few hard and fast rules which made it so much more relaxing.

Thank you, thank you, thank you a thousand times for giving me a such a wonderful trip, holiday, change of scenery and outlook on life. You both really gave me a fantastic experience.
