Rome … the ancient capital of Italy and a wonderful place to spend a few days. With so many interesting places to visit, we’ve narrowed it down to our top 10 must-see sites in Rome.
Sistine Chapel
The Sistine Chapel is a must see. It was built back in the 1400’s, somewhere between 1475 and 1481. This is where Popes are chosen and crowned, but Sistene Chapel is most famous for the artwork on the ceiling, delicately painted by Michelangelo. It also features work from other influential artists and is worth the visit.
St Peter’s
In 1452 this historical church was renovated, which took more than 200 years to complete. Here you will find works from Raphael, Michelangelo as well as many other well known architects. St Peter’s contains a total of 45 alters, 11 chapels and many priceless works of art.
Colosseum
We’re sure you’ve heard of the Colosseum – it’s one of the most famous landmarks of Rome. This is where the gladiator fights of ancient Rome occurred.
Tip: The maximum capacity is 3000 people, so allow plenty of time to queue and get through security.
Trevi Fountain
This place is truly a celebration of what makes Rome so unique. It was built in 19B.C. and it’s said that if you toss a coin in the fountain you will definitely come back to Rome. Be sure to bring some change with you! Like many tourist attractions in Rome, it can get quite busy – so why not visit in the evening (when it’s a bit quieter) and take advantage of the romantic lighting?
Roman Forum
The word forum is Latin for market or open space. The Roman Forum was the heart of the city, and many important public buildings were located here. It’s wonderful to walk through the ruined buildings and imagine what life used to be like.
Art Galleries
Rome has plenty of art galleries to choose from and it’s been said that the Roman Art Galleries are the home to some of the most beautiful works of art. Vatican City
The smallest sovereign state in the world is located right in the heart of Rome. It’s the home of the Pope and it makes the territory of the Holy See. Even if you don’t set out to check the Vatican City off your itinerary, it’s likely you will anyway – many art galleries and places of interest are located here, including the Sistene Chapel.

These visually distinctive extensive steps connect the Church of the Trinita dei Monti and the Spanish Square. It offers an outstanding view of the city and as a bonus, it’s a great place to people watch and soak up the atmosphere.
Pantheon
You won’t want to miss this as it’s truly spectacular. Well preserved and a great example of classical architecture, it makes you imagine about all the people here before you. The Pantheon has been a place of worship for 2000 years – originally a temple, it was converted into a Christian church in 608 AD.
