Rail Cruising is new to Rotorua. Located in Mamaku, the business began in December 2011. The rail journey takes 2 hours and descends through rural scenery with some stunning bush vistas in the Dansey Scenic Reserve.

Each rail cruiser holds up to four people. After a 45 minute trip the self-drive rail cruiser is turned around on a turnstile by staff and sent back up the track to home base.

Rail Riders was founded by Neil and Jane Oppatt.  The operation is being developed with the help of Track Manager Bryan Zajonskowski.

There are plans to take the rail cruisers down towards Rotorua city extending the rail track from 20kms to 43kms. Trips are offered at 11am and 1pm daily.  I recommend phoning to confirm a booking on 0800 RAILRIDERS (0800 724 574).

Try it next time you visit Rotorua – it’s a unique experience.
