The Kola Superdeep Borehole is designated as a Soviet Union science project, with no other objective than to see how deep a hole they could dig.
Drilling began on May 24, 1970. The deepest borehole, reached 40,230 feet (12.26kms) below the earth in 1989 and is the deepest artificial point on Earth.

In World War I, during the extreme winter of 1916 & 1917, wolves in the Black Sea area were starving to death due to a food shortage.
As the wolves got desperate they began to attack both Russian & German soldiers. As a result, a ceasefire was called to co-ordinate an effort to deal with the wolves.
Once the wolf hunt ended, fighting resumed.
