About The Story of You

From a New Zealand expert in children’s emotional and social development, comes a beautiful book for children affirming their life story as a treasure.

It’s the VERY BEST story,
The story of you,
And no-one can tell it
Quite like YOU do!

Your story is your treasure. It’s what makes you unique. Like a book you can’t stop reading, it gets more and more interesting as you go along. All the ups and downs, twists and turns work together to shape a wonderful story which is not the same as anyone else’s. The more you keep breathing, keep living, the more your story comes together!

The Story of You is a book which affirms every child’s life story as a treasure. People from Aotearoa understand the concept of taonga, the Māori word which refers to a treasured possession or natural resource, something to be prized and cherished.

Children will discover that whatever experiences they have in life, they are both the author and the central character of their own unique story!

For children 8 to 12 years.

About the Author

Having journeyed with many children as a seasoned pastoral care worker in Auckland state schools, Rose Stanley recognises the value of appreciating each unfolding story as fresh, interesting and powerful. She has thoroughly enjoyed spending time with students of varying ages and in both individual and group contexts over the last 12 years.

Rose has held a training role skilling and resourcing voluntary pastoral workers in schools, and most recently has trained volunteers specifically in the role of ‘companion’ in the Seasons for Growth programme. This programme is highly regarded within and outside of New Zealand.

Rose has also been writing for the past 10 years, both as a freelance writer for the parenting magazine Tots to Teens, and as a published author of children’s books: Tilly’s Big Problem, A Hot Cup of Chocolate and Emotions in Motion (all three published by Duck Creek Press), and Brain Tricks (Cheeky Dragon Collaborations).

Rose’s main writing focus has been children’s emotional/social development. Having observed firsthand that so many children experience significant adversities and losses over the span of their childhood, she strongly believes in encouraging all children to acknowledge and express their feelings as a key preventative measure towards good mental health in adulthood.

The Story of You is Rose’s fifth children’s book to date. It is a tribute to the inner strength she has seen shine through, time and time again, within the stories of the many students she has been able to journey with.

Whilst Rose lives and works out of her home on the sunny Hibiscus Coast, she has regular spikes of writing inspiration thanks to frequent breaks away at a family bach on the waters of Lake Taupo.
