About Little Addicts

In Little Addicts, leadership coach and mindfulness expert Kerene Strochnetter explores the hidden patterns behind the behaviours we repeat, even when they quietly cost us our peace, relationships, health, or happiness.

This book is for anyone who has ever wondered: ‘Why do I keep doing this?’

Addiction isn’t always obvious. Sometimes it shows up in the big addictions we’re all familiar with — alcohol, drugs, or gambling. But it can also hide in the little addictions like overworking, overthinking, perfectionism, people-pleasing, scrolling, overeating, online shopping, needing to stay in control, staying busy, staying numb, or constantly reaching for something to take the edge off.

Blending neuroscience, psychology, mindfulness, and honest storytelling, this book reveals a deeply human truth: humans are designed for addiction. To avoid pain, seek comfort, and repeat whatever soothes us in the moment. Not because we’re broken, weak, or lacking willpower, but because we’re wired to seek safety, comfort, connection, and relief from pain.

This isn’t a book about becoming perfect. It’s a book about understanding yourself well enough to interrupt the patterns keeping you stuck. Because awareness changes everything.

About the Author

KERENE STROCHNETTER is a leadership coach, mindfulness expert, author, speaker, and host of The Little Addicts Podcast. For more than 20 years, she has helped leaders and organisations create lasting behavioural change through greater self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and values-aligned leadership.

She is the author of Crazy Busy — If Busy is the New Stupid, Then Mindful is the New Smart, founder of Mindful at Work, co-author of wellbeing programmes for the Triple Goal app, and supervises other coaches in their professional practice.

Kerene’s work brings neuroscience, psychology, mindfulness, and humour together into practical, down-to-earth conversations that help people interrupt the patterns and quick-fix behaviours quietly running their lives, creating space for more courage, clarity, and self-compassion. That work sits at the heart of Little Addicts.

Kerene lives in a minimalist apartment in Wellington, New Zealand. She loves writing, yoga, Pilates, waterfront walks, movies, coffee with friends, and time with family, especially her two wonderful sons and five amazing grandchildren.

While much of Kerene’s work explores letting go of attachment, she makes a notable exception for beautiful shoes.
