About Lest They Have Eyes

An epic new dystopian sci-fi/fantasy series, from US author Bonivon Dyer

A world built on perfection.
A warlord whose return could shatter it all.
Four lives bound.

For six centuries, the utopia of Elusis has thrived—a society of supernatural Gifts, peace, and prosperity. But beneath the surface, secrets stir. Arkarian Story, a long-lost warlord, lies frozen in a hidden cryo tank, his name a whisper of fear and rebellion. His awakening could destroy everything.

Kansis, isolated and rejected, longs for freedom. Pypen has chased the warlord’s shadow for eight years, risking everything. Flister, an immortal, fears the cost of Arkarian’s return. And Amelia, a girl out of time, holds a secret that could tip the balance.

When their paths collide at the heart of a traveling circus, buried truths emerge, and the lines between ally and enemy blur. The warlord’s legacy looms—bringing danger, betrayal, and a promise of death.

‘Welcome to Elusis. The new world – post nuclear war. Where perfection is everything, being different is shamed, and the people of the old world are being awakened hundreds of years later to a very different existence. This book hooked me from the very first page and held onto me until the last word. It is Sci-fi/fantasy so perfectly done. Are we sure this is a debut author? Just brilliant.’ Amazon Five-Star review

‘It is just as good, if not better than The Hunger Games.Amazon Five-Star review

‘Epic in scale, but with an intimacy that draws the reader in, Lest We Have Eyes follows the lives of four characters who are bound together in a world hundreds of years in the future after a nuclear war. It seems to be a utopia of peace and prosperity, but it’s not all as it seems, especially when they go searching for a long-lost warlord. Unforgettable characters, and exceptional world-building.’ NZ Booklovers

Author Note

I’ve been writing stories since I was a kid, and I finished my first novel at sixteen. But the spark that lit the fire for The Blood Maker’s Fables came from a dream. I dreamt I lived in a world where everyone was married… except me. My match had refused to marry me, and I was humiliated. That strange ache, that quiet sense of patheticism, stuck with me. So I started writing it.

Thirteen years later—after dozens of restarts, failed drafts, plot holes, soul-sucking self-doubt, financial dead ends, and one too many shower breakdowns where I cried harder than the faucet—I finished it. And I’m publishing it. It’s one of my greatest creative triumphs, and I’m not even going to downplay it. It would’ve been easier to give up. But I didn’t. Cheers to you, Obstacles. You tried hard. But I won.

My writing digs into themes I care deeply about: true courage, identity, manipulation, the lies we tell ourselves, and the quiet bravery it takes to face who we really are—both the triumphs and the wounds. We all want to show the trophies and hide the scars. But the wounds are part of the truth, too.

If you’re someone who longs to get lost in a new world, who wants to fall in love not just with characters but with the cultures, the systems, the strangeness of it all—you’re my kind of reader. I imagine you might be a fellow dreamer, maybe even a world-builder yourself. Writers, artists, singers, sketchbook-stuffers. People who commune with the creative.’

About the Author

Bonivon Dyer is a speculative fiction author specializing in sci-fi/fantasy with emotional depth and high-stakes storytelling. Her debut novel, Lest They Have Eyes, explores identity, truth, and the cost of perfection. She lives in Reno, Nevada, United States, with her husband and their four wild and wonderful children, surviving on coffee, plot twists, and the chaos of parenting. If found staring blankly into space, don’t worry—she’s probably rewriting a scene in her head or arguing with an imaginary person named Scout. Again.
