Meet Gerald Bryan
Gerald Bryan was born in London and came to New Zealand in 1968. He has been a professional actor since 1975, working on stage, television, film and radio. Always passionate about food, cooking and wine, for thirty-five years he has also been a professional cook, caterer, food advisor and restaurateur working in England and NZ in his own and other restaurants, wine bars and as chef to a private hospital.
For over twenty years he was senior partner and chef in a Wellington company catering for a personal, corporate and diplomatic clientele. He had a regular “live” cooking slot on TV One’s GOOD MORNING and has given numerous other food demonstrations. He holds qualifications in wines and spirits in UK and NZ, in food safety and has been a judge at the prestigious NZ Culinary Fare. Working freelance, he is a professional member of the New Zealand Guild of Food Writers and for four years had a weekly column as restaurant critic/food columnist in THE WELLINGTONIAN newspaper. He has also contributed articles and original recipes to a number of other publications.
He has travelled widely and has lived and worked in UK, Spain, Denmark and the USA. His other interests are; early music, opera, pétanque, reading and gardening.
He is married to actress Donna Akersten and they have a cat called Parker.
